Will Curves or Arches Stand the Test of Time

I am old enough to remember when Curves and Arches were everywhere in houses in the 80s and 90s.

You couldn’t walk into a living room or kitchen without going through an arch or look at kitchen cupboards without seeing an arch in the door panelling.

The last year or so, the arch has made a huge comeback, with front entry doors encased in an archway , front gates and paths being covered in archways and little bar areas off kitchens being set in an archway with open shelving….all looking absolutely amazing!!

But will this trend last? and what will you think of your home in 10 years time?…will you want to change all the arches back to a square set?

Like all trends.. they come and go, so my advice is ,if you are intending to build your “Forever Home” maybe not put in arched hallways and entry ways…unless you are quite prepared to replaster in a few years time…or maybe just don’t overdo it… don’t have all your front house facade looking curved or all your cabinetry curved, try to think of your future self with your home’s textures and shapes ….that won’t date…maybe just add an arched wall in the butler’s pantry, where only you will see it.

Because it was only a few years ago that everyone was plastering over or demolishing those arches!
