Are doors on a walk-in-pantry necessary?

Most butler’s pantries are behind the main kitchen cupboards or framework, so you are not actually looking at the shelves and cupboards in the pantry when you are standing in the kitchen - they are often hidden away.

A walk-in pantry, on the other hand, is often one of the first things you see when entering the kitchen. So, should you cover it up with a door?

My preference is a resounding YES! I like to have all my groceries and kitchen items hidden…I would love to be the Marie Kondo of the pantry world, but I am just not. Don’t get me wrong my pantry isn’t a total mess, and I do dream of having everything lined up in a neat row in matching containers, but I just don’t want my visitors looking into the pantry.

If your budget doesn’t stretch to a gorgeous barn door to close off your pantry when designing your kitchen, add in a plain sliding door - it will still do what you need and provide a neat and tidy solution.

Adding a door to your walk-in-pantry is more than just a design choice. It's a practical solution that brings both aesthetic and organisational benefits.

Whether you opt for a chic barn door or a simple sliding door, the key is to choose something that fits your style and budget. Remember, the most important aspect is that it serves it’s purpose - keeping your kitchen looking great and making your life just a bit easier.
