The modern luxuries of bathrooms

How did our grandparents survive with just a tiny vanity with one bowl ?

Granted I remember my Nana and Pop had a shaving cabinet in their pink bathroom, but looking back the whole bathroom was small…and there was only one bathroom in the house with a very separate toilet!

Back before the 1950’s , most toilets weren’t even in the house, there is a reason why some homes back onto alley ways- this was for the latrine carts, to come around and empty the toilets.

I have vague memories of very scary outdoor toilets at relatives places, that smelt and looked bad!

Even our ancestors never thought of having whole bathrooms in their homes, royalty had grand palaces with not a single bathroom in sight!

So are we spoilt for choice in this day and age?…the more luxuries the better I say!!

We all love our double vanities, they are so practical in both main bathrooms and ensuites, we love our shower niches or ledges, that look amazing with feature tiles, we love our IXL heat and fan lamps…and if we want very high luxury, we adore (well at least I dream of) under floor heating.

We have certainly come a long way since I was a little girl with our bathroom styles and inclusions, I honestly don’t know how my Nana put up with the size of their bathroom but that was how it was (I also remember my Nana’s bathroom being very cold!!)…and now pink is back in fashion!!
